NZ Athlete: Alister LEAT

Dear all Members

It was with great sadness and sorrow that the Judo Federation of Australia has learned about the passing away of one of New Zealand's National athletes, Alister Leat.

Alister was a well-known and admired athlete to many Australian Judoka. The way he took on Australians in any match, proved he was a worthy and feared opponent. His Judo spirit, etiquette and fair play will be remembered.

Alister and other team mates were in Europe competing during the tragic loss. Due to this, it has put extreme financial expense to the family to bring Alister back home to New Zealand.

JFA has sent up a bank account with the assistance of Fiona Iredale, so people can make a donation to help assist with the cost of returning Aister to New Zealand and his funeral expenses.

On behalf of our members, the Judo Federation of Australia would like to convey to the New Zealand Judo family and to the Leat family, our deepest condolences for this great loss.
