The two-day 2014 OJU Oceania Open, which carries IJF World Ranking List points towards Rio 2016 Olympic qualification, takes place 84 km southeast of Sydney and the hosts have selected a full strength team who are counting the days until they meet the world’s best judoka on home soil.

Oceania’s top event takes place either side of the African Open in Mauritius and the Qingdao Grand Prix and will be followed by a two-day training camp from 16-17 November.

Michael Picken, President of Judo Federation Australia (JFA), mentioned that he is delighted to welcome national federations and international clubs to Wollongong.

“I am very proud to host the 2014 OJU Oceania Open in Wollongong and the JFA is hoping that many countries will come to Australia and experience our unique life style”.

Michael went on to say that the 2014 Oceania Open is a golden opportunity for Australian judo both organisationally and for our athletes and that we have waited a long time to host a major international competition.
