Building in the Alice

Don’t forget to pack your Judogi!

In what must a contender for the most isolated Judo Club in Australia, the Alice Springs Judo Club is building steadily under the leadership of club coach Ezekiel Dodoo.

In a joint initiative with Judo NT, National Participation Manager Shane Alvisio travelled up to Alice Springs after a three week stint visiting clubs around South Australia.

He was able to attend three judo classes led by Coach Dodoo, who first trained in Judo in his home country of Ghana.

Not only is he an excellent coach, but has done great work in increasingly the visibility and engagement with Judo in the Alice. Hosting two junior and two senior classes each week, he has been successful in persuading many people from other martial arts disciplines to try judo – and some have become regular attendees.

“I was very impressed by the number of judoka attending, and the skills they have been taught,” Shane said. “Even better, the members made me feel very welcome and it’s obvious they enjoy having new people coming onto the mat to train with them.”

“I encourage all judoka from everywhere around Australia and overseas, if you happen to be coming to visit this incredible place, the glorious centre of Australia, make sure you bring your judogi and pay them a visit!”

Alice Spring Judo Club, led by Coach Ezekiel DoDoo, welcomes Shane to the red centre.
