About the event

After a 5-year hiatus the OJU, Judo Australia and Judo Queensland Kata Committees enthusiastically announce the return of the Oceania Kodokan Kata Seminars and Championships.

To be held 29 August to 3 September 2023 in Brisbane. 

Led by expert kata instructors Mr.M.Sameshima 8D and Mr. H.Otsuji 7D, from the Kodokan Judo Institute in Tokyo & the OJU Kata Commission; Mr. B.Vincent 8D, Ms. M. Matthews 6D, Mr. E. Wakamatsu 5D.

TARGET JUDOKA 

· The seminars are for all who are serious about learning and perfecting their technical judo and who want to learn under teachers from the founder, Jigoro Kano’s original school of judo.

· Ideal also for existing and aspiring kata judges, dan examiners, dan promotion candidates and judokas who want to compete in kata at national and international levels.

ELIGIBILITY

· Seminars open to current members of IJF/OJU affiliated nations who are at least 13 years old and already know the sequence of the katas and are proficient in all ukemi.

· Competition is for OJU members only. NSO medallists will have entry preference should limits apply

· There will be OJU certificates for attendance and for competitors for their competition achievement level.

PROGRAM 

Daily seminar sessions & daily competition 9.00 -11.30am and 1.00 - 3.30pm 4 - 6pm

  • 29-August-23 Tuesday Kodokan Goshin Jutsu
  • 30-August-23 Wednesday Kime no Kata
  • 31-August-23 Thursday Ju no Kata
  • 1-September-23 Friday Katame no Kata / & Course dinner at Manly from 7.30pm
  • 2-September-23 Saturday Nage no Kata

Venue: Ohori Bayside Dojo 40 Molle Road Gumdale Qld 4154. 

The venue is 20 minutes’ drive from Brisbane airport.

One day kata seminar 

EB $120    Normal $140 

Five-day kata seminars 

EB $500 Normal $550

Competition (per kata, per pair) 

EB $80   Normal $100 

For 5 or more judokas from the same club paid in one transaction take another 10% off the total cost.

Last day for early discount 31 July. 

Refunds up to 20 August. Pay on the day where limits allow, add $20

Places in the seminars and competitions will be limited.
