Dr John Azoury, the Chair of Judo Australia’s Medical Commission, will outline the latest information around concussion in a FREE seminar taking place online at 7pm (AEDST) on Sunday, February 8th.
Dr John will discuss changing thinking around concussion, introduce viewers to best practice, and outline Judo Australia’s policy for concussions received in both competition and in a Club and dojo environment.
He explains that concussion is a traumatically induced transient disturbance of brain function, and that the correct follow up is critical as concussion can impact on long term brain function.
Even a light concussion must not be ignored, as a second impact can be devastating, leading to permanent injury or death.
“Even a suspected concussion must see the athlete withdrawn from contact sport, assessed, managed, rehabilitated and a gradual return supported,” Dr John will share.
He stresses that while most concussions involve direct trauma, not all do, and will discuss a number of scenarios likely to occur in club and competition settings.
