Commonwealth Games Australia has announced Australia’s judo team for the 2026 Glasgow Games in front of the judo community assembled for this weekend’s National Championships on the Gold Coast.
Damian Brown OLY, in his role as deputy chef de mission for Glasgow 2026, brought Australian mascot Borobi to lighten festivities and thrill the crowd and athletes alike.
He told the athletes and onlookers that the aspiration for the Glasgow games was to take Australia to the top of the medal tally, while delivering the best experience of each athlete’s life.

“To close, I would like to congratulate every athlete selected today, along with their coaches, families and friends, and the clubs and communities that have supported them on their journey to this moment.”
Presenting the travelling jerseys alongside Damian Brown, Judo Australia chairman Simon Read spoke of the family connections in judo, and our need to expand the sport, as everybody deserved the chance to grow and thrive in Judo.
“Judo is more than just a sport, it’s a way to develop body, mind and spirit into something better and stronger,” he said. “Role models like these show us that every day.”
Our 11 elite judoka will be among more 250 athletes competing across ten sports, with the Commonwealth Games commencing on 24 July.
