Judo Australia would like to congratulate so many judoka for attempting and acquiring their Black Belt Dan Gradings for the 2024 End of Year Dan Grading period.
The number is not yet finalised however there are over 65 new Dan Grades being awarded around Australia with 50 of these receiving their Sho-Dan grade (1st Dan).
Every state awarded dan grades, ranging from 1st to 2nd to 3rd, 2 x 4th and a 5th Dan Grading. The gradings included judoka aged in their 60's down to 18yrs, and at least 12 female judoka including two Judo mum's.
Most people assume just the competitors receive dan grades, however this period witnessed many dan grades awarded for service points collected from their contribution to volunteering and giving back to the sport, as our founder Jigoro Kano wanted.
National Participation Manager, Shane Alvisio,
'Many more are involved in these Dan Grade events around Australia. If we have 65 successful applicants, then they need 65 partners to assist them on the day and practice with for months prior. Plus, their grass-roots Club Coaches who provide instruction & guidance and everyone back at their home dojo are invested in the success of their new dan grades recipients'
Every club needs these new Dan Grades to stay involved in "Club Land" and in-turn assist their younger or less experienced judoka.
Our largest states for end of year Dan gradings included:
NSW - 19
VIC - 15
QLD - 13
WA - 11.
CONGRATULATIONS to all successful new Dan judoka and their Clubs.
