EJU invites Australian Adaptive Judoka to join the Venray Get Together 2024

Judo Australia is building a team of Adaptive Judoka to plant the Australian flag at one of the world's great events for adaptive judo: The EJU Get Together in Venray, Netherlands.

On receiving the invitation from the EJU, Judo Australia chair Simon Read replied with a resounding YES and JA set out to assemble a team of participants, supporters, coaches and referees to participate event. Our team will also be tasked with studying international best practice to help Adaptive Judo in Australia to become world class, from tournaments to grassroots practice in dojos around the country.

'I am looking forward to a great opportunity to get together with Adaptive Judo Coaches competitors and volunteers from all over the world to grow this pathway and help build inclusive Judo around the globe.

I'm so excited to get to meet with inclusive Judo teams and associations from around the world and build the blocks that will be the foundation of adaptive Judo worldwide into the future', said Grant Girdwood, better known as 'Bobby's dad'.

Expressions of interest are NOW OPEN to help in our planning and maximise your chance of participating in this amazing opportunity. Please circulate to all members of your adaptive judo community for them to consider the possibilities - no formal commitment is required until October.

The spirit of Judo on display at Venray: six mats across multiple adaptive divisions at 2023's Get Together Venray.

We encourage clubs and States to get behind this tour, and ask all judo clubs to assist participants with applications for local and State grants to help address the costs of attending the tour. The tour will encompass VI Judo, Kata and Shiai with all rules under the EJU Adapted Sporting code, a code Australian officials are looking to watch, listen and learn from for Adaptive Judo down under.

The tour is also intended to broaden opportunities for our Adaptive Judo Community, beyond the focus of competition. The EJU celebrates all aspects of Judo both on and off the mat and we encourage all Adaptive participants in Australia to consider coming along.

  • The 7-8 day tour extends across the following areas:

    • Saturday 16-17 November, 2024 - Travel and settling in

    • Monday 18 November, 2024 - Training camp with local Judo Club

    • Tuesday 19 November, 2024 - Training camp with local Judo Club
