Deepali leads referees towards 2032

Judo Australia’s Referees Committee has selected National and International Referee Deepali Mistry as its leader, underscoring the contribution women are making to judo, on and off the mat.

As Chairperson of the Referees Committee, Deepali takes responsibility for guiding the development of judo referees in Australia, as well as deploying the Australian referee contingent to local, state and international competitions.

Also working towards this goal will be two new Committee members who bring further experience and enthusiasm to an already impressive team. Victorian referee Peter Alway and Queensland’s Sam Manu join existing members Lubo Petr and Robert Pearce, as well to Deepali, to prepare Australia's referees for their crucial roles in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

Judo Australia is set to invest in referee and official development as we build towards the Brisbane Olympics, and has full confidence the Referee Commission can deliver the education, skills development and international standard required to stand proud in the global spotlight.

"Deepali has done an amazing job with coordinating and leading the Committee with Arek Zygmunt in the past; she is now formally appointed as the sole Chairperson, set to lead us into our brightest era yet," said Judo Australia CEO, Beck Hamilton.

“She follows Heather Kschammer as an outstanding female referee in the top job, and it shows the women and girls who love their judo to not be afraid to step forward.  There is a place in judo for all!” Beck said.

"Thank you to all of our referees for their service, and we thank you in advance for the hard work that lays ahead as we build our workforce to deliver world class judo at the Brisbane Olympics in 2032."
