Kata exponents Shamit Singla and Reuben Bowden-Smit showcasing their skills at the Kata National Championships in June.

This is the most frequent question judo students ask when National Participation Manager Shane Alvisio tours clubs around the country delivering coaching workshops.

It's not surprising when our young judoka are so dedicated to their craft and want to commemorate this milestone in the journey towards mastery.

Something needed done, Shane decided, and worked with our Grading Committee to develop a handy guide outlining the nine different pathways available to achieve sho dan in judo.

These include the Contest Points and Knowledge pathway, Knowledge Points and Service Points pathway, the Kata pathway, Veterans pathway, Cadets pathway, Adaptive pathway, Batsugun pathway, Knowledge Only pathway, and Ratification pathway.

All are detailed in a step-by-step, easy to follow guide downloadable from our Grading section HERE.
