The Micronesian nation of Palau will host the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, with a focus on the development of young athletes across a range of sports, including judo.
An Australian judo team will be selected to contest the competition taking place July 5-8, with 50% of the athletes required to be under the age of 21.
Expressions of Interest are now open, and must be submitted before March 31, 2025.
Taking place in the Palau capital, Koror, a team of nine male and nine female athletes has been invited to contest the judo competition across seven weight divisions. Selection will be informed by the National Points Table (as per points recorded 31 March 2025), with athletes under 21 years of age given priority. (Minimum age for competition is 15 years.)
The selectors will also be looking for athletes who have achieved a minimum level of brown belt (1st kyu), and have a history of supporting national programs such as training camps and international tours. To be eligible to represent Australia, they must be an Australian citizen/permanent resident and hold a current Australian passport or have special permission from the IJF to represent Australia. (Full eligibility requirements are detailed on the EOI form.)
This event will be self-funded, with costs including but not limited to flights, accommodation, and uniform purchase. Total cost is estimated to be around $2000-3500 depending on departure airports (all Australian flights direct to Palau
leave from Brisbane).
