After glittering success in Poland last weekend, Australia’s Cadet team is warming up for a second run at the podium in Portugal tomorrow.
Contesting the Bielsko-Biala Millenium Team Cadet European Cup last weekend, Gold Coast judoka Rika Hirose won convincingly as she fought her way through a huge field in a brand new division.
In her first contest in the U52 after dominating in the U48, Rika showed herself more than up to the competition, controlling contests well until ultimately succumbing to the gold medallist, Austria’s Isabella Stoegmann.
Also impressive in the Polish event was another Queensland judoka, Lisa Caravello from Ohori Judo Club, who finished the tournament in 7th place in the U57kg division. (Full results from Bielsko-Biala HERE.)
Following a training camp in Bielsko-Biala, the 10-strong cadet team travelled to the Algarve in Portugal, settling in today prior to competition tomorrow in the Faro Millenium Team Cadet European Cup. More than 600 athletes from more than 33 countries are registered to compete.
Judo Australia’s Pathways Program selects promising Cadet athletes to experience key European events and training camps as part of their development towards becoming seasoned high performance judo athletes.
